Cup Stand
This project originated from a spectacular problem between me and my roommate of him continuously making fun of me for spilling drinks in our room. To put an end to this issue, I designed and manufactured a cup stand that would hold any cup placed on it perfectly perpendicular to the ground. This ensures no accidental impact from hand-eye miscoordination would be able to tilt the cup, spilling the drink. During the 2 month period of building this product, I went through many iterations and designs, finally settling on a suspension system-resembling structure that would act on two axes. The final manufactured product consists of 3D-designed and printed parts, as well as internal ball bearings which were also designed and integrated by your's truly. The main problem I initially ran into was the friction forces being too big, so most of the prototyping process was towards perfecting clearances to reach negligible frictions.
